I just feel like writing about a triple play that i called when i was in Maryland before doing a mens fastpitch game. It was kind of peculiar, so i thought i would share with anyone that wanted to here it. No Outs of course, runners on second and third, bottum of the seventh, home team was down two runs. Here we go, Fly ball left field, runner on second thinks the ball is over the outfielders head he takes off, runner on third is waiting to tag up, as the runner from second gets closer to the runner on third he leaves the base so as not to passsed by the other runner.
The runner on third leaves the base a little but as the ball is caught on a great play from the leftfeieder the runner on third turns to go back to the base the runner on second can't stop and passes him, now that two outs, the runner on third had stopped just off the bag after i called the runner on second out for passing him, the coach not knowing what his player off third is doing gives him a shove back to thrid and tells him to tag up and run. Well all know as soon as the coach touched his player during live ball play i called dead ball and called the runner on third out for coaches interference.
This play happened in only my second year as an umpire. Be ready if you are out there anyhting can happen, Im not saying that was my craziest play i ever called but it was a very weird triple play to call for the end of that game.
Thankyou for listening
Marlin L.
